Rock, Paper, Trimmer FAQ

Rock, Paper, Trimmer FAQ

Fiskars® Rock-paper-trimmer™ FAQ’s

1.      How do I get my Rock-paper-trimmer™ to play music?

First, open the MP3 player cradle (has the Fiskars logo).  Underneath you will find the universal connector plug.  Gently pull this plug out from under the retaining clip and close the cradle.  Set your MP3 player in the cradle and plug the connector into the headphone jack of your MP3 player as you would with standard headphones or ear buds.  Select your favorite music and press play on your MP3 player.  The volume is controlled from your MP3 player, laptop .

2.      I cannot find the MP3 player.

An MP3 player is not included with the Rock-paper-trimmer™.

3.      Can I play music with the Rock-paper-trimmer™ even if I don’t have an MP3 player?

Yes.  The Rock-paper-trimmer™ is designed to work with any portable music device that accommodates a headphone plug.  This includes: portable CD players, laptop computers, even old portable tape players – these devices will not fit in the Softgrip® cradle, however.

4.      I only hear music coming out of one of the speakers of my Rock-paper-trimmer™.

This is caused by an incomplete connection between the MP3 player and the Rock-paper-trimmer.  The headphone jack can become worn in well-loved MP3 players and portable music devices over time.  Try removing and reinserting the connector plug into music device pushing firmly as far as it can go (you can sometimes feel two ‘catching’ points as you insert it).  Be careful not to wiggle or ‘pry’ the entire headphone jack within your music player as this could damage the player.  If there is still no improvement try turning the inserted connector plug one direction (i.e. clockwise) and then the other direction a couple of times.  This can help wear away a bit of corrosion that may have formed inside the headphone jack of an older player/music device and improve the connection

5.       I cannot hear the music on my Rock-paper-trimmer™ from across the room.

The Rock-paper-trimmer™ is designed to enhance your personal crafting experience by enabling you to enjoy your music while crafting.  The speakers project the sound upward toward you while you are using the trimmer or crafting close by.  This design limits the projection of music or sound to a large area.  In short, the Rock-paper-trimmer™ is not a replacement for a stereo or home theater system.

6.      The volume of the music seems quite low.

The volume level of digital music can be a function of: the type of music (classical vs. jazz vs. hard rock); the quality of the digital recording (higher bit rate generally = higher possible volume) ; and, to a lesser extent, the type of portable music device (different types/brands of MP3 players, CD player vs. laptop computer).  If a particular favorite song seems to play too quietly try re-ripping the song at a higher bit rate (i.e. 256k vs. 128k) or, if your player supports it, in a ‘lossless’ format (i.e. lossless WMA format).  Additionally, songs in your collection or playlist that were ripped at different quality levels/bit rates could play at different volume levels.  - also see point #5 above.  Lastly, some music players have a volume limiting feature to protect your hearing while using headphones.  Turning this feature off will enable you to increase the maximum volume level at which you can play your music.

7.      Are different, decorative blades available?

Yes.  Fiskars® has a number of different designs of blades available.  The blade size is 45mm (Style B) and the blade changing instructions are molded onto the bottom of the trimmer.

8.      There seems to be a (sticky or hazy) film over the design on my Rock-paper-trimmer™. – or – There seems to be a film peeling up from the edge of the design on my Rock-paper-trimmer™.  Is this right?  Should I remove it?

Yes.  The Rock-paper-trimmer™ comes with a protective film over both of the design/measuring surfaces.  This film should be removed prior to use to prevent the film from interfering with your cutting.
