Rock, Paper, TrimmerFiskars has a rockin' new tool, and it's called the Rock, Paper, Trimmer. This is a trimmer like no other- speakers for your MP3 player are built right into it! We took one of these new trimmers and passed it around to some of the fiskars design team to see what they could make using this trimmer. Fiskars 45mm rotary blades (that work in other 45mm trimmers and rotary fabric cutters) work in this trimmer, just another great feature it has to offer. Some other wonderful things about the trimmer's features are-

Designer: Susan Weinroth When the ultra-fabulous rock paper trimmer arrived at my house for a little scrappy test-run, I was totally excited! ![]() It was so much fun to try out Fiskars latest and greatest tool, and to listen to my favorite songs ON MY PAPER TRIMMER!!! The deco blades that can be used along with this trimmer are genius, making cutting straight deco edges a breeze – and proved to be perfect for layering onto the cards that I was creating. ![]() You can create cards similar to mine simply by trimming the edges of patterned paper with one of the various deco blades and adding in a bit of creativity. The “thanks” card is a square base format card, that incorporates the scallop blade. The center square (red) is trimmed on all four sides with the scallop blade, in addition to the right side of the card base. The “I love U” card is a vertical format card base, and layers in strips (red, brown) that are all trimmed on only one side with the pinking blade.
Carry the pinking blade theme a bit further and trim the top of the card using it, as I did. The “For a friend” card is a horizontal base format card and uses one of my favorite blades – the Victorian blade. Simply trim a strip of blue patterned paper on one side with the Victorian blade and then layer across the middle of the card as a focal point. The “hi there” card is another horizontal format card that has a thick strip (red) of patterned paper across the middle that is cut on all four sides with the Tiara blade, and hangs off the edges slightly – its adhered to the card using foam adhesive. Further embellish cards using circles cut from patterned paper with the ultra shape xpress tool.

Designer: Lisa Truesdell Okay, I think I’m in love with the Rock Paper Trimmer. Not because it plays music (though that IS a nice perk!) – it can cut fabric!!! It was so nice to be able to get nice straight cuts on the fabric for this album project without getting out my big self healing mat, clear ruler and handheld rotary trimmer. I was a little nervous when I first tried it, but I found that if I went slow and was sure to hold the fabric in place, the trimmer had no problem at all. After I had the fabric trimmed, I went ahead and tried it on thick chipboard – again, easy! With the Rock Paper Trimmer I had all of the bits and pieces of this album trimmed and ready to be assembled before my favorite album was done playing. ![]() Once I found out that I could cut fabric with the Rock Paper Trimmer, I knew that I wanted to create a fabric covered album. I started with 4 pieces of brown polka dot fabric, all trimmer to 8x9in using the pinking blade. I then cut 2 pieces of chipboard and 2 pieces of quilt batting to 8x9in. I scored the 2 pieces of chipboard 1in in on the longer side and punched 2 holes that matched the holes in my page protectors along the edge.
To make the back of the album, I stacked a piece of fabric (right side down), the chipboard, the quilt batting and then another piece of fabric (right side up). I pinned around all 4 edges and machine stitched about ¼ in from the pinked edge, all the way around. Before I built the front of the album I dressed up one of the fabric pieces – I added patterned paper and embellishment from Heidi Grace’s Daydream Believer line and Kimberly Polson’s Canbana Blooms line. I used the Rock Paper Trimmer to create a decorative edge on my patterned paper before I stitched it into place on the cover. Then I trimmed another scrap of fabric with the pinking blade and stitched that over the paper. I finished the album cover with chipboard, buttons and stickers. Once I was done embellishing, I assembled the front cover in exactly the same way as the back of the album. I then used my MicroTip scissors to snip small holes in the fabric and batting that matched up with the holes punched in the chipboard. I threaded the binder rings through the back cover, my page protectors and then the front cover.
I knew immediately what I wanted to use this album for – I am lucky enough to live near Becky Novacek, who is an amazing photographer (and a fellow Fiskars design team member!). This will be a perfect place to show off my favorite images that she’s captured of my family. First, I created a title page. I trimmed kraft cardstock to 6x6 in, then added patterned paper, a stamped tag, chipboard embellishments and buttons.

Designer: Kelly Purkey I have an addiction to scallops and love to a scallop edge on all my pages. This is even easier to do when using a rotary trimmer and scallop blade. And it conveniently fits into the Rock Paper Trimmer!
I can hook up my iTouch before I get started working and won't have to worry about changing trimmers when working on my layouts. I always need some background noise while I work so the Rock Paper Trimmer is the perfect accessory to have some music going or play one of my audio books right from my desk.
In addition to the scallop and straight blades I used on this page, I also used the Fiskars Ultra ShapeXpress to make the decorative mat the title is on. Mixing and matching decorative edges adds a fun look to any layout!
Designer: Lisa Storms This trimmer is pure genius mixing two of my very favorite things, crafting and music! I am a spreader ... a drifter if you will. I start on a project at my desk, then move to spread out in the living room and then to the kitchen table until I have most of the first floor covered in tiny bits of paper and thread. And now I can have my music follow me along my "travels". And that isn't even mentioning how cute it is and all of the fun decorative blades that are available (my newest favorite is Tiara - it's a must-have!). ![]() ![]() I decided I needed to have FUN with all of those deco blades and give lots of interest and texture to some seasonal paper piecings while embarrassingly singing to my favorite playlist. I just love seeing what I can come up with using my tools in unexpected ways. The Tiara blade made quick work of a snowflake, the Deckle blade gave a glow to the sun's rays, the Scallop blade made cute waves out of shimmery fish paper, and the Pinking blade did double duty creating grass and tulips. These tulips are a snap using an unexpected heart punch! ![]() I assembled all of my paper piecings onto a monthly planner I created using store-bought pages creating my own "binder" out of chipboard and binder rings, but these can easily be used on layouts, cards, mini albums, or any seasonal crafting project! Designer: Patti Milazzo Having a Tween, I know she’s hoping for a party with a touch of sophistication. So for this one we’re having a SPArty.....a what, you say? A Spa Party!! And having the very cool Rock Paper Trimmer to help make the party supplies we need was a plus. I found some party hats to use as templates, cut my patterns out of paper from Heidi Grace Designs A Little Bird’s Tale. I then cut strips of patterned paper using the Deckle Blade to create a fringe on top. I assembled the hat, fold the strips in half and secured them inside the tip of the hat.
Gently curl the strips with scissors and decorate the bottom with circle punches and Rain Dots. The centerpiece is a fun way to display the things we’ll be doing at the party. Near the bottom I cut several 1/2 inch strips using the Deckle Blade and layered them. Roll the bottom edges up a bit to get a ruffled look. Create an invitation, a party favor or any other items for your theme – and listen to your favorite tunes (Maroon 5 for me) at the same time. ![]() For me, the mp3 connector and speakers were so convenient. No need to take along another device for speakers and no need to use earbuds/headphones. Everything was all in one. So moving from my scrap room to the kitchen table meant I only needed to carry the trimmer wherever I decided to scrap. Another plus......my daughter thinks it looks great with HER new ipod cover! Hmmmmm....I’ll have to keep an eye on my new trimmer I think.
