Designer: Lisa Truesdell
My littlest is turning one in July – and I can’t wait to see him dig into his birthday cake!! With the help of my favorite Fiskars sewing tools, I made him a very special “1” bib to wear on his big day. It’s sure to look cute while being covered in frosting! =) I kept the design simple so you can mix and match your own favorite fabrics to coordinate with any birthday theme for your little boy or girl.

Instructions
(Print version)
1. Trace an existing bib onto cardstock and cut it out to make a pattern. 2. Cut 2 pieces of brown polka dot fabric and 1 piece of flannel big enough to fit your pattern on. 3. Stack you fabric in the following order : Flannel, brown polka dot fabric (printed side UP), brown polka dot fabric (printed side DOWN). 4. Trace your pattern onto the top fabric using a fabric marker. 5. Pin the 3 layers of fabric together along the line that you’ve traced. 6. Sew along the line on three sides of the bib – leave the neckline open. Cut out the bib leaving about 1/4in outside of the line of stitching.

7. Flip bib right side out so that the fabric is in the middle. Iron bib and stitch along the edge of the bib to help keep it’s shape. 8. Iron orange dot fabric to interfacing. Trace a circle onto the back and cut around the circle. 9. Iron a small piece of brown polka dot fabric to interfacing. Trace a “1” onto the fabric and cut it out (I used a printed 1 as a template). 10. Stitch the “1” into place on the orange dot circle. 11. Place the orange dot circle in the middle of the bib and sew it into place. 12. Cut a 1.5in x 36in strip of orange dot fabric. Use your iron to press it in half – printed sides out. 13. Pin strip to the bib as if you were going to bind a quilt. The 2 cut edges should match up to the edge of the bib, with the folded side laying back against the bib. Sew down the entire length of the tie.

14. Pull binding strip around to the front of the bib and pin into place. Iron the length of the ties so that they fold over onto themselves. Sew down the entire length of the tie.

15. Finish each side of the tie by adding a knot to the end.
