Butterfly Applique Shirt

If you’re an all-around crafter, don’t forget that some of your tools can pull double duty!  Pull out your Fiskars ShapeXpress templates to design a t-shirt or handbag embellishment.  With some felt, a button, a few beads and some simple stitches you’ll create a designer look in a couple of hours.

  • Required supplies:
  • Shape Template - Butterflies 2
  • button
  • lime felt
  • pink embroidery floss
  • assorted craft beads
  • needle
  • fabric pen/pencil

Instructions (Print version)

  1. Use the template (or a negative left by cutting a shape) to trace the butterfly design onto felt and cut the shape out.
  2. Use one or two strands of pink floss to stitch beads to felt butterfly in a random pattern.
  3. Once the design is beaded, pin the design to shirt and blanket stitch around the edges with pink floss (three strands).
  4. Stitch the antennas (I just freehanded the design) onto the top of the butterfly and add a larger bead to the ends of each antenna.
  5. Stitch the button in place in the center of the butterfly.
