Instructions:

  1. Measure your can’s height.  Multiply that number by two and add one inch.  This is the length of your fabric piece.
  2. Measure the diameter of the can and add one inch: this is the width of your fabric.
  3. Cut your piece of fabric with rotary cutter/acrylic ruler.

  1. Trace the bottom of the can onto remaining fabric and cut this piece about a half inch outside of the line you traced- set aside for now.

  1. Fold the large fabric piece in half, right sides together.  Sew along the raw edges taking about a half inch seam.  Press seam open.

  1. Leaving the cozy wrong side out, pin the round piece of fabric to one end of the tube.

  1. Stitch along the traced line drawn on the fabric.

  1. Turn up about a half inch along the bottom edge and hem with machine.  Add Fray Check if fabric ravels too much.
  2. Keeping the cozy wrong side out, place finished bottom in can and pull excess down around can.

OPTIONAL: Stitch an assortment of buttons along stitched hem line.

I made a set of can cozies using a variety of can sizes (baby formula can, large coffee can and the soup can).  Decorate them with ribbons, simple elastic garters and more.
