Intro: Every mom needs a “command central” – a deck or beach chair to sit in and keep track of what’s going on around them.  This organizer ties on to any chair to give you a place for everything you need while outside – some reading material, sunscreen, your cellphone & keys – you’ll always have your essentials close at hand.

note : I used unbleached cotton for the body of my organizer, which doesn’t have a right side and a wrong side like many fabrics do.  However, I am noting in my directions whether your right side should be in or out in case you use a printed fabric.

Instructions (Print version)

1. Trim three pieces of unbleached cotton and one piece of batting to 15inx11in.
2. Place the batting between two pieces of fabric (right sides out) and stitch lines across it randomly. Set the third piece aside
3. Trim a piece of fabric to 15x20in and a piece to 15x16in. Fold in half and press a seam down the middle (right sides out).
4. Stitch a line about ¼ in below the fold you just ironed to hold it in place.
5. Iron scraps of fabric onto iron on interfacing.  Use your USX template to trace 3in circles on the back and cut out using your Softgrip MicroTip scissors.

6. Line your circles up on the small piece of fabric.  Iron into place and then stitch around the edge of each circle.

7. Stack your fabric as follows :  quilted piece (right side UP), small folded piece (right side DOWN), middle sized folded piece (right side DOWN), big flat piece (right side DOWN). Line up the bottoms of all of the pieces.  Pin around all 4 sides.
8. For the ties, you can use ribbon or bias tape, or create your own.  I cut 4 strips of fabric measuring 3x11in each. Iron the edges towards the middle, then iron them in half.  Stitch a line down each tie where the folded edges meet.
9. Pin the ties inside the top corners of your stack of fabric, so that the length of the ties extends down between the fabric and just the end is on the outside.
10.  Sew (Slowly!!  You’re going through a lot of layers of fabric) around all 4 sides of the fabric.  You’ll want to leave a 4 or 5 in gap across the bottom so you can flip the organizer right side out.

11. Once you’ve flipped the whole thing right side out, iron the seams flat. Sew around all 4 edges about 1/4in from the side – this will help keep it from shifting, and close the hole that you left in step 10.
12. Tie a knot at the end of each of the ties.
