I'm the founder of Simple Scrapbooks magazine. I choose to be simple because I like to finish things and the older I get, the more I like to go to bed on time. This 81/2 x 11 layout starts with a 5x7 photo of a single subject. I don't know that you need step-by-step instructions, but I will give you a challenge.

Instructions
(Print version)
1. Slice two strips of different widths off the top and bottom of your photo, so you have three pieces 2. Adhere the large center section of your photo, so that the subject's eyes are just above and left of center. 3. Align and adhere the two strips leaving enough space to feature a rub-on border and your title. 4. Cut pattern paper strips to extend the block of photos to the edges of your page. 5. Add the rub-on and title to the empty spaces. 6. Apply an additional rub-on vertically along one side of your photo block. 7. Handwrite journaling to the right of your photo block.
[optional] Add an additional embellishment to the point where your rub-on borders intersect. I add two additional chipboard letters.
Design Tips: Both visual interest and balance are achieved by allowing two elements to extend outside of the strong visual block of photo + paper.
