Instructions (Print version) Cut a triangle out of patterned paper with a base of about 3.5" and a height of approximately 4". I used the Tool Taxi and a straight edge to do this quickly. Use this triangle as a template to cut 12 more triangles out of patterned paper. (I used 5 different kinds of patterned paper, and cut two or three triangles out of each.) Trace around the triangle on the back side of the patterned paper, then cut out using the blade on the Tool Taxi. Now, using the same technique, cut 13 smaller triangles out of colored cardstock, with a base of 2.5" and a height of 3.25". I cut out two red triangles, two pink triangles, three green triangles, three yellow triangles, and three blue triangles. Adhere the smaller triangles to the larger triangles, lining up the bases and centering them so there is an equal border on the left and right sides. Place letter stickers in the center of each triangle, taking care to leave room at the top to sew on the bias tape. Choose the colors of the letters to contrast with the cardstock behind them to make the banner easier to read. Run each triangle through the Paper crimper. Attach a scallop border, using the Heidi Grace Photo Border Stickers, to two of the letters in "happy" and three of the letters in "birthday." Place borders only on the right and left sides, not the top (base). Cut one 30" length of bias tape, and one 40" length of bias tape. Use the shorter length for the word "happy" and the longer length for the word "birthday." Place the the triangle with the letter "h" in "happy" between the folds of the bias tape, leaving about 6" length before it for hanging. Sew along the top, and add the next triangle to the bias tape when you are about ¾ of the way through. Continue with this process until you have sewn all the letters on. Repeat with the 40" length of bias tape to form the word "birthday". |
