Pinewood Derby

I like to incorporate a lot of texture into my layouts. Look at your photos and see what you can recreate! A texture plate allowed me to create a block of wood grain to house my title, a twist on a border punch made a tire tread border, and clever use of pinking shears gave my foam tire a realistic edge.

Instructions (Print version)

1. Trim neutral cardstock to fit title block and emboss with wood grain texture plate and texturing tool. Rub texture with brown chalk to further define pattern. Add chipboard letters and wheel embellishments punched from patterned paper.
2. Cut black foam circle using largest circle template. Go around edge with pinking shears to create tire tread, being sure to only clip with the tips and not the entire pinked blade so the outside is still flat.

3. Cut gray circle to fit inside and adhere journaling strips in same color with foam adhesive.
4. Cut flames from patterned paper and adhere along edges of red cardstock base.

5. Cut two strips of dark gray cardstock 1 3/16" wide and punch down both sides with diamond punch. Layer onto strip of black cardstock to create tire tread border.

6. Assemble all remaining items as shown, using foam adhesive under title and photos.
