Summer’s finally here and my son couldn’t be more excited about school being out!  He has big plans to swim and play all day – what kid doesn’t?   But to help prevent the “summer slide” (as his 2nd Grade teacher calls it), I thought a journal would be a great way to continue practicing his writing skills.  And this paper pieced robot made with Squeeze Punches and Shape Templates makes the journal that much more fun!

Instructions (Print version)

1. Cover a notebook or composition book with cardstock.
2. Punch and shape cut all your pieces:

• Head- 2 ½” circle; 2 red Pop Up Circles and 2 Medium Brick pieces for antennae.; 2 white Pop Up Circles with ¼” circles punched out and 2 Black Pop Up circles (behind white) for eyes; smile punched with 2” circle Squeeze Punch;
• Body- 3”H x 2 ½”W with corners rounded; Inside - XL Hip Square; 3 Medium Blocks; 3 Medium Bricks – 2 have ¼” circles punched out; Medium hearts stacked; Pop Up Sun and Star.
• Arms- each arm is 1 Large Block; 4 Medium Blocks and 1 Medium Circle with small crescent cut out using Circle Pop Up Punch.  *Tip: punch the crescent first, then punch the hand with the Squeeze Punch.
• Legs- each leg is 1 Large Block; 4 Medium Blocks and feet are from 1 Large circle Squeeze Punch cut in half.
• Cut/Punch stars as well.

3. Ink edges for added dimension.  Layer stars.
4. Paper piece your robot together starting with the legs.  Start from the bottom and layer building up – like shingles.
*Note: Be sure your robot will fit – this robot is 8” tall once pieced together.

5. For torso, adhere squares and rectangles and layer with punched shapes in bright colors.  Add mini brads.  For heart, punch 5 pieces and stack for a 3D effect.
6. Create the arms in the same fashion as the legs. 
7. Assemble the head and tuck under the upper portion of the torso.
8. Adhere stars to upper area of journal.
9. Print name on white cardstock and punch out letters using Medium Block Squeeze Punch.
