Earlier this summer I found myself wishing that I could find cool images like some of my (scrapbooking) rub-ons, but in a form that would work on fabric. Then I tried rubbing an image onto fabric and sealing with liquid adhesive and found a new love! Using my rub-ons on fabric. I wouldn't recommend this technique on a fabric project that will need to be washed or worn - but for wall hangings, decorative throw pillow perhaps, or maybe even a purse it's perfect!

Today I'm showing you a small embroidery hoop that I will hang in my youngest daughter's room. I love the small size as a quick project, and that I can make her a little piece of art. You could also incorporate this idea into an art quilt or wall hanging with your favorite rub-on image and it would make a wonderful gift!

Instructions (Print version)

Start by finding an image you want to use, and a hoop that will be the right size. I use a 5" hoop for this.

Rub-on the image gently, once it transfers coat it generously with a decopauge medium of some kind and set aside to dry.

Cut the fabric out so that you know the final size of hoop you're working with. The black line you see in the photo below is slightly larger than my hoop, so I know where stuff won't show and where it will go between the hoops.

As it dries the fabric may try to warp - don't worry! Just iron it out if needed.

Add some punched shapes and rhinestones- stitch on as needed. Buttons, chipboard, and other goodies could be added too if desired. Then stitch on some purple wide ribbon that is cut with pinking shears along one side, and stitch it to the left side of the circle.

Next stitch a thin ribbon around the circle, looping it and folding it at random. I love this messy look of the ribbon just being swirled around!

Now secure the fabric in the hoop, and you're ready to finish this project. Punch and adhere (Twinkle, Twinkle L squeeze punch) a bunch of stars to back of hoop. Then finish by dabbing some adhesive around the hoop edge and dusting with glitter.
