Summer flower pot

Summer is on its way and I’m already thinking about BBQ’s and gatherings with family and friends. And that means decorations! This embellished flower pot project will make a great center piece when entertaining or it can simply be used as décor to brighten any room in your home. I found that Fiskars new (and very cute) Limited Edition Summer Squeeze Punches are a wonderful compliment to already existing Fiskars tools like the Summer Seasonal Texture Plate and the Sun Pop-Up Punch.

1. Basecoat flower pot white and let dry. Paint rim red, add yellow polka dots and let dry completely.
2. While the paint is drying, create the tag. Start by embossing the sun pattern from the Summer Template on kraft colored cardstock. I like to use both the Texturing Tool and the Stylus for the best results.
3. Trim cardstock to 3” x 6 ½” and Border Punch bottom of tag. Lightly brush yellow ink pad (Bisque) over embossed design.
4. Squeeze Punch shapes from cardstock – black ants; yellow sun with yellow circle in center; green Soleil cut in half for grass. Use Sun Pop-Up Punch for center of sun. For the watermelon, use Shape Template and Ultra ShapeXpress Tool to cut 2.5” and 3” circles from red and green cardstock. Cut circles in half and layer. Use drop shape from All Scream Squeeze Punch for watermelon seeds. Use freehand attachment of Ultra ShapeXpress Tool to create cloud. Ink shapes, add pen work to cloud and adhere pieces to tag as shown.
5. Fold 8” piece of ribbon in half and staple fold to top of tag. Set aside.
6. Create circle accent in a similar fashion. Emboss cardstock then cut circles using Ultra ShapeXpress Tool and Circle Shape Template. Layer Soleil punches to create flower petals. For flower center, punch small holes with Hand Punches in brown Squeeze Punched circle, then layer black circle underneath.
 7. Trim foam to fit in flower pot – ½” below rim. Place foam in pot and secure with glue if needed.
8. Take 2 pieces of floral wire and wrap around a dowel. Leave straight 3” on bottom and 2” at top of wire.
9. Take one curled floral wire and create a loop at the top with pliers. Tie tag ribbon to this wire and insert into foam in flower pot.
10. Attach circle accent to other curled floral wire with adhesive and back with another 3.5” cardstock circle. Insert into foam in flower pot.
11. Cut flowers to desired height and insert into foam in flower pot.
12. For grass, cut 3 - 12”L x 3”W – 4”W strips of green cardstock. Use Ultra ShapeXpress freehand feature to cut wave along one side. Run each strip through Wavy Paper Crimper, then make thin cuts with scissors across 12” length. Be sure to leave ½”- ¾” space along other side to keep the piece together. Wrap and layer grass around flowers and inner rim of flower pot. Add extra pieces where needed.
