Fiskars shape templates make it so easy to create custom accents and appliqués for your sewing projects.  Here I used Halloween-themed fabric to embellish a small denim tote – I think that it makes the perfect trick or treat bag for any young girl!

1. Start by selecting a variety of Halloween-inspired fabric prints – you really just need scraps of each.  Iron pellon craft fuse to the back of each fabric (according to instructions) as an added re-inforcement.

2. Use Fiskars diamond shape template to trace shape with pencil onto backside of craftfuse.
3. Use Microtip No 5 scissors to trim diamond shape from fabric.  Craft fuse will help the fabric hold its shape and not fray.

4. Pin diamond shape right side up to orange cotton canvas.  Machine stitch around inside edge of diamond shape.  Remove pin, and use Fiskars pinking shears to trim around edge of diamond, creating an orange pinking border.

5. Repeat process to create enough diamond appliqués to circle your bag.  Lay them out on bag and use fabric adhesive / fabric glue to fix them into place.  Embellish between diamonds with a large rhinestone (also use fabric glue for these).

6. Trim strips of one of the fabrics using pinking shears and tie around one strap of bag.  Punch pumpkin shape and adhere to punched circles and thread one strip through top of circle for a festive embellishment.
